Salute To Israel
Though we are thousands of miles away, not a day goes by without getting our daily dose of the latest news from Israel. It is simply not possible these days to be aware of the life and death adventures of Israelis and of Israel itself.
This is therefore an appropriate time to salute the country, the people and those around the world that care for Israel's well being.
No matter what part of the political or religious spectrum you are affiliated with, we urge you to salute Israel in a variety of ways:
INVEST IN ISRAEL. Purchase Israel Bonds. This is not a donation but an investment that provides not only a very competitive monetary dividend, but, a huge emotional and spiritual dividend at the same time.
Consider investing in the Israeli market through instruments such as the Growth Fund of Israel. This is a mutual fund and your money is at risk, so be sure to get a full picture of what is involved.
VISIT ISRAEL. Bring your family. There is simply no substitute for being there. A Hebrew school education for your children and Bar and Bat Mitzvahs should not be considered complete without going to Israel. In fact, since so many of our youth move away from Judaism after the age of thirteen- a trip to Israel may be the best and longest lasting gift you can give your child in order to appreciate what it means to be Jewish and to have a spiritual homeland.
Get involved in Jewish activities either through your local YM- YWHA; synagogue; or a variety of organizations such as UJA; Hadassah; and the Jewish Action Alliance to name just a few. Whether it is for social, religious, or political reasons you may find some fulfillment in doing things with other Jewish people.
Last but not least come to the annual Israel Day Parade on Sunday May, 12th at 12 noon on Fifth Avenue from 57th to 79th street in Manhattan.
Make your own personal salute to Israel this year a meaningful one.
