Jewish Federations Of Washington And Metropolitan Chicago Lend Support To Schneider Children's Medical Center Of Israel
After contributing generously toward pediatric medical services in Israel, more than 150 delegates from the Jewish Federations of Greater Washington and Metropolitan Chicago recently visited Schneider Children's Medical Center of Israel while in Israel for the General Assembly of the United Jewish Communities (UJC).
Schneider Children's Medical Center of Israel is Israel's only highly specialized hospital exclusively dedicated to the healthcare of children and the sole facility of its kind in the Middle East.
In 2002, in the wake of increasing numbers of children injured in terrorist attacks, Schneider Children's Medical Center of Israel sent out an urgent appeal for funding in order to enhance the Medical Center's emergency medical services.
The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington pledged $1.5 million toward the construction of Israel's National Burn Center at Schneider Children's Medical Center of Israel. Schneider Children's Medical Center of Israel will operate the National Burn Center, providing comprehensive and critical treatment for children with severe burn injuries, especially those injured in terrorist attacks.
During their visit to the Medical Center, over 100 members of the Washington Federation met with Professor Marc Mimouni, Director of Schneider Children's Medical Center of Israel; Ms. Lynn Schneider, daughter of the Medical Center's founders, Irving and the late Helen Schneider; and Ambassador Uri Bar-Ner, Senior Advisor for Development and International Relations.
